The Friends of the Hennepin Canal was formed in the summer of 1998, when a group of people from communities along the Hennepin Canal came together to share their concerns and their vision for the future of the Canal.  These informal meetings led to the formation of the Friends of the Hennepin Canal on October 13, 1998.  The purpose of the organization is to: Maintain and develop recreational and educational opportunities and preserve the historical features of the Hennepin Canal Parkway State Park.

Meetings:
The "Friends" directors meet at least once quarterly.  Once a year the "Friends" hold an annual meeting - usually late September or October.  Notice of the annual meeting is in "Wanderings" - the "Friends" newsletter.
